Medical background and Family Physician Training
Dr. Fabio Vieira completed his medical studies in 1999 at the School of Medicine of Botucatu (FMB), a part of the State University of Sao Paulo (UNESP). This public university is recognized as one of the top 10 medical schools in Brazil, known for its high levels of teaching, basic, and clinical research. Dr. Fabio is registered with the SP Medical Council, where you can verify his updated registration status for added assurance.
After graduating in 1999, Dr. Vieira pursued a specialization in Family Medicine at the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP), an institution renowned for its research and close involvement with its hospital, consistently ranked among Brazil's top 10 medical schools. A Family Physician is a medical professional who, after completing general medical training, specializes in providing comprehensive care for frequent diseases on Primary Care on the most effective manner.
Dr. Vieira also developed an interest in healthcare management and, in 2002, completed a specialization at the
University of Sao Paulo (USP), one of Latin America's
top universities, in cooperation with
OPAS.
Brazilian GP: General Practitioner licensed to practice in Brazil
In 2004, he was awarded the title of specialist by the
Brazilian Society of Family and Community Medicine
and the Brazilian Medical Association, fulfilling the academic and clinical requirements to fully practice as a Family Physician, Primary Care Physician, and General Practitioner in Brazil.
Over the subsequent years, Dr. Vieira focused on continued professional development as a Family Doctor internationally. He attended the
World Organization of Family Doctors - Wonca
Europe Conference in 2006 and the UK Annual Conferences of General Practitioners organized by the
Royal College of General Practitioners
in Edinburgh (2007) and Glasgow (2009). Additionally, he frequently participates in the Brazilian Family Health Conference. In 2009, he further enhanced his expertise in healthcare management by participating in a Health Economics course at the
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Special interest and late career as Family Doctor
Despite his work as a Family Physician, Dr. Vieira also developed a special interest in Chronic Pain and has been actively working on this field, attending and lecturing at international conferences on this topic since 2009.
As a dedicated Family Physician and member of the Brazilian Society of Family and Community Medicine, Dr. Fábio had the honor of contributing to the Tratado de Medicina de Família e Comunidade, a seminal work endorsed by WONCA (World Organization of Family Doctors).
He authored Chapter 164: 'Chronic Pain Management' in the 2nd Edition (2018), the definitive medical reference in Brazil (ISBN 978-85-8271-488-1). Dr. Fábio also contributed to the 1st Edition (2012), which achieved national prestige by winning the Jabuti Prize, the most distinguished literary award in Brazil. His work is globally recognized through his ORCID (0000-0003-2711-2769) and his contributions to primary care education.
Continuing his academic development and interest in diverse health systems worldwide, Dr. Vieira completed his master’s degree in International Health Management with merit at Imperial College London in 2017. This experience allowed him to gain a deep understanding of Britain's National Health System (NHS) and the critical role of General Practitioners in the foundation and organization of the NHS. Since then, he has lived in London and shares his time between Brazil and the UK.
In recent years, Dr. Vieira has worked extensively with telemedicine, seeing patients for healthcare insurances and privately as Online GP. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also worked in hospitals in São Paulo as part of the Brazilian Health System (SUS). Additionally, he acts as a Visiting Lecturer at UNESP, contributing to the university's Family Doctors training program.
